I raise Morgans because I love the breed.
I was one of those little girls who always wanted a horse but grew up in Baltimore and
it just wasn't practical. So when I finished college and started teaching
school, I was finally able to get my first horse. My first horse, Pepper, was
a black and white pinto appaloosa cross. When he got old and I started
looking for another horse, my blacksmith told me to find a Morgan because a
Morgan would be short enough for me to get up on, strong enough to carry me
when I was up there, and nice enough to take care of me until I got down.
I looked for a long time and finally wound up with a pregnant mare, Baywind
Fashion. I was supposed to sell the baby to finish paying for the mare. That
baby was Romper, now 22 and winner of a gold medallion in the Morgan open
competition show division. I began breeding Morgans when people started
asking to buy Romper. I wouldn't sell him, so I bred his mom again instead.
